4th of July Youth Musical Production

An image of one of the many musical productions put on at the Chandler. -- Image©R.M.EddyThe 4th of July youth musical production has been an eagerly anticipated event since its introduction in 1999. An all-star cast of regional high school students participates in an intensive theater camp experience at the end of June, and performances take place over the July 4 weekend. Auditions are held in early spring and the cast is announced shortly thereafter. Students arrive with lines memorized and receive instruction in choreography, vocal production and acting from experienced directors. Nearly 100 high school students from many area schools participate, both on stage and behind the scenes. The Turrell Fund provides important financial support for this theater experience. For information about the coming production, please call the Chandler office at 802-728-9878.

Central Vermont Chamber Music Festival

Each August since 1993, New York cellist and Artistic Director, Peter Sanders has brought first class chamber music to Chandler Music Hall in Randolph for a two-week festival.

At the center of the festival are two full Saturday evening concerts of music for strings, piano, and winds--trios, quartets and quintets and more--performed by critically acclaimed musicians, all of whom are affiliated with other chamber groups and/or orchestras, both nationally and internationally. Many of the musicians are regulars, and have been adopted by Randolph families who host them year after year during the festival period.

Specific highlights of the CVCMF are the special children's concert and the Sunday free Concert at the Inn, among other events. The children's concert is a real close-up-and-personal learning experience for the children who get to sit right on the stage with the performers. They are introduced to the various instruments, are carefully walked through the meaning of the music, and sometimes can even participate. The free concert at the Inn, a gift from the CVCMF musicians to the community, has quickly gained popularity.

Through the informality of the performance and the lighter nature of the music, townspeople and visitors alike can become easily acquainted with chamber music while enjoying a Sunday afternoon at the beautiful Three Stallion Inn -- picnics on blankets, babies, dogs and all--a Vermont event at its best! New World Festival

Image of Morse Dancers at the New World Festival. -- Image©R.M.Eddy Held annually on Labor Day Sunday, the festival celebrates the musical heritage of this part of the New World - both northern New England and Quebec, and the vitality and spirit of a present-day Vermont town.

The festival takes place in Chandler Music Hall and adjacent Cultural Center, in all-weather tents on both sides of Main Street, and in historic Bethany Church. With Main Street closed to traffic, the festival site becomes an intimate pedestrian village, a hive of activity from noon until the final call under the dance tent. Five stages offer continuous entertainment. Some 75 of the best Celtic and Franco-American musicians from throughout New England and Quebec play concerts, offer workshops, participate in dance bands and jam together in perhaps the most exciting feature of the Festival, sessions workshops.

Adding to the festive atmosphere, are artisans' displays offering traditional instruments, fine art, clothing and jewelry.

Food and drink are a big part of the New World Festival! A tent of booths offers specialities from several area caterers. Churches and other local non-profit organizations provide homemade pies and other mouth-watering treats. A variety of Vermont specialty beers are available.
