Meet the Chandler Staff:
Executive Director Rebecca McMeekin (on left) was hired in 1998. In addition to arranging a full schedule of performances, working with a large and diverse group of volunteers and writing grant proposals, she administers the New World Festival, plans special projects, oversees marketing, coordinates the building and programming arms of the Chandler board, and represents the organization in the community. She has successfully administered many large projects, including the commissioning and presentation of new music, a collaboration with Gifford Medical Center and the annual youth musical. In spring 2001 she received an award from the Vermont Alliance for Arts Education for outstanding contributions to arts education and was recognized in 2007 as the Outstanding Business Executive of the Year by the Randolph Area Chamber of Commerce.
Board President Janet Watton (on right) moved to Vermont in 1993 from New Jersey where for eight years she worked as a music reference librarian in the music department of a large county library. Her responsibilities included dealing with public inquiries, as well as creating the library’s classical holdings on CD and those of all the member libraries in the system. She was invited to join the Chandler board of directors in 1994, served as creator and chair of the production committee, and has since produced all Chandler’s classical performances. She was elected president of the board of directors in 1996. As board president, she oversees the work of the co-chairs and vice chairs for the Centennial Campaign.
Community Outreach Manager Betsy Cantlin brings years of volunteer production experience to her work at Chandler. As a member of Chandler’s production committee, she is instrumental in ensuring that after a performer is contracted, the performance is successfully presented through carefully-managed publicity and hospitality efforts. She is the producer of Chandler’s Mud Season Variety Show and July 4th youth musical. Betsy is Chandler's liaison with the school, business and non-profit communities. In September 2007 Betsy was chosen as the 2007 Arts Advocate honoree by the Vermont Alliance for Arts Education. She is recognized, among her other accomplishments, for her outstanding work with young people, involving them in the arts through Chandler.
Technical Director Mimi Burstein lives in Randolph with her husband Jay and son Owen. She has a deep belief in both the program and what the students involved in it are able to accomplish. She has worked at Chandler since 2004 and has mentored youth in technical theater since 2001. Mimi describes her student tech crew, as “those under-appreciated, overworked people in black who you may see running around behind the scenes of a production”. 'Techies' are responsible for all the technical aspects of a production, including sets, lights, sound, etc.
Box Office Manager and Facilities Usage Manager Kathy Corrao was hired in 2002. In addition to selling tickets over the phone, she recruits and trains volunteers that work in the box office prior to
performances. Kathy was part of the team that computerized the box office in her second year of service. She coordinates rentals with the tech, maintenance and art gallery committee. Prior to Chandler, Kathy taught elementary school in the Orange Southwest Supervisory Union. She also taught in Ohio and New Hampshire. Kathy volunteers in the community as secretary of the Gifford Medical Center Auxiliary board, is active in AAUW at the local and state level, and leads an exercise class at the Greater Randolph Area Senior Center.
