Chandler Tech Page

So your kid is a Techie... What's a Techie?

Welcome to your new life as a parent of a Chandler tech apprentice.

Who am I and what am I doing with your kids?

My name is Mimi Burstein. I live in Bethel. I moved to Vermont from Santa Fe, New Mexico with my husband two years ago. I have been working at Chandler for two years and mentoring students in technical theater for almost five years. I started working in theater when I was 15 as a scenic artist and had my first apprenticeship in a scene shop when I was 16. I continued doing theater after High School and have a BA from the College of Santa Fe. I have also studied at the University of Nevada Las Vegas.

I really believe in this program and in the kids who do it. I believe that what they do here can impact them for the rest of their lives, and can lead them to college, an internship, and/or career in theater or related field. Some of the kids who have done this program in the past have gone on to work professionally in theater as well.

This life requires from your kid:

  • Responsibility
  • Reliability
  • Maturity
  • Adaptability
  • Teamwork
  • Technical theater skills i.e. how to hang a light, run the lightboard, put together a mic stand etc...
  • A new theater vocabulary
  • Work on a variety of shows here
