MORE INFO

For the first time in Green Mountain State history, the public will have the opportunity to observe directly, a transparent process by which the VT House of Representatives evaluate candidates for Speaker of the House—by far the most politically influential role in our beloved capitol of Montpelier. Proud to be the first to host such unprecedented political tradition; the White River Valley Chamber of Commerce is excited to be inviting both incumbent Speaker Rep. Jill Krowinski [D-Burlington], and challenging incumbent Rep. Laura Sibilia [I-Dover] to Randolph just prior to year's end for what central Vermont voters are eager to experience, as the Chandler will facilitate something of a miniature Republic between election day the first week of November and the first day of the Legislative session the first week of January.

Hardly any person who believes in strengthening Democracy has thus far disagreed with the prospect of an open-forum-style debate immediate to the public eye, so this election voters will have the chance to contribute comment to their Representative-elect, as to the differing policy agendas, political priorities, and leadership styles being marketed to House members as each candidate for Speaker seeks to win over the remaining votes of 150 House Representatives. All members of the General Assembly will have a seat in the auditorium reserved for them, as they get front row seats, while the public may have those left of the 575 maximum occupancy. All media groups in Vermont are invited as well, and the debate will be recorded for subsequent viewership. Details and logistics have yet to be confirmed by the two candidates, but we are pleased to announce that Kevin Ellis of WDEV has agreed to moderate this unforeseen public affair. Questions, suggestions, comments, or contributions? Call Jay Hooper @ 802-299-6371, as he has kept a growing list of commercial sponsors and individual donors. The new hotel in Randolph Center will be available for all Reps & Senators.
